Design and Technology
The Design Technology department aims to create a stimulating learning environment where young people have the opportunity to learn about materials, processes and new technology through designing and making a range of different products, exploring the work of existing designers and analysing existing products and systems.
Design Technology is an inspiring, rigorous, and practical subject, which prepares young people to live and contribute to the world around us. Sustainability is a strong theme throughout our curriculum – analysis of how products and materials impact the environment and what can be done is an ongoing issue that is addressed in the classroom and through directed independent study at home.
Students experience a range of materials such as polymers, timbers and papers/boards; learning both traditional and hi-tech ways of manufacturing quality products from these materials. Students also study core technical principles and are able to apply their scientific and mathematical knowledge within real life technological contexts.
The department is committed to ensuring all students learn in a safe, inspiring environment giving equal access to all students and celebrating cultural diversity.
